Closing Time

Well this is it. The final post for MindMapSwitch. As of next week MindMapSwitch is closing its doors.

When I first started out 2 years ago, I wanted to initially just write a blog on mind mapping and see what happened. During the last 2 years there has been a consistent stream of articles on mind mapping published here and I've enjoyed every minute of it. However, there's only so much 1 person can say on a subject, and while I've had fun doing it, I think it's time that I closed the door on MindMapSwitch.

I haven't decided what to do with the content of MindMapSwitch yet, so feel free to archive any articles you liked. Perhaps someone else can find a good home for some of the more popular articles here.

Before I go, I want to say a big thank you to everyone in the mind mapping community for making this a fun experience. It's been an awesome ride, but all good things must come to an end.

Update: Well not quite the final post. I will occasionally keep this blog updated with new resources on mind mapping in the future, but the weekly post is out for the meantime.

2010 Goals Review

You might remember at the start of the year, I showed you how to use a mind map to set your single achievable goal for 2010. Well now that it's April, I thought it might be a good idea to review my own progress in the pursuit of my goal for 2010.

Well after a couple of good months in which I eventually hit my milestones for January and February, I was on my first steps to achieving my goal for 2010.

Come March, I hit a brick wall, and never actually achieved the milestone I set for this month. Not to be down trodden though I pushed on through to April where I have achieved my milestone for this month earlier than I had expected.

With all the scribbles and notes I have made on my 2010 mind map, I am going to go back and redo again without all the scribbles. This should give me time to review on my previous milestone wins and prepare myself for the next 4 months ahead.

The great thing about mind mapping my goal for 2010 is that I have one portable mind map that goes with me everywhere I go and I can quickly add any ideas or thoughts to my mind map while I am on the move!

Check Out Our Gallery

For a long time now, I've been thinking about adding a gallery to the blog that consists of the mind maps created for this blog and some others. It seems wrong in a way to run a mind mapping blog such as this and not have a gallery that readers can browse through instead of trying to search through old posts.

Well no more! I'm proud to announce that the MindMapSwitch Gallery is now open!

Over the next few weeks I'm going to be posting more mind maps here that perhaps don't warrant a full blog post. I might also include mind maps that have been quickly sketched for an idea and also screenshots of some software mind maps.

We're Back!

So after a week of preparing content and amending our Wordpress design to work with Posterous we're finally back up and running.

I imagine your all wondering why the need for a change of blogging platforms for MindMapSwitch.

For the last 18 months I ran the blog using Wordpress on a rented server. It started out okay, but in the last few recent months I noticed a performance drag in the website. I also found that maintaining the blog along with all the plug-ins that MindMapSwitch used was becoming quite a chore.

I signed up for Posterous a few months ago and already use it for my software development blog. Having been impressed with the functionality of Posterous and the next to nothing maintenance required, I though it would make a great platform for hosting the MindMapSwitch blog.

The blog still requires a few changes and may deviate ever so slightly from the design at the moment, but I'm still focused on providing the best tips and techniques for all you mind mappers!

Thanks to you all for your patience, and I hope that this is the start of a new chapter in the MindMapSwitch blog that will benefit everyone!

MindMapSwitch Is 1 Year Old!

You probably didn't realise this but last weeks post was our 50th post on MindMapSwitch. That's right, its been a whole year since I started this blog and it has been such a great experience. For years now I have been using mind mapping for different things, but it wasn't until 18 months ago that a close friend of mine planted an idea that has now grown into MindMapSwitch.

So what has happened over the last year?

Over the last year we've covered all types of topics. You've seen how to manage your GTD workflow using mind mapping. I recently posted a refresher mind map for those who like GTD, but might have fallen away from the path. Social networking is a big thing these days and with the explosion of Twitter, I started posting tips on our Twitter account for everyone. You have also probably read about mind maps in education, tips for MindManager Mac users and even how to use a mind map as an aid for writing.

What does the future hold for MindMapSwitch?

From the first day I started this blog, I said I wouldn't go rushing ahead and just dropping ads any old place on the blog. For the last year I have kept true to this with no advertising on the blog or the RSS feed. For the near future I still see the blog staying add free.

Having collated so much information over the last year on mind mapping with blogs posts and twitter updates, I now have the seeds of the first MindMapSwitch products. In the next year I hope to publish a couple of e-books for people who are new to mind mapping. I'll keep you posted on this over the next few months.

I've been approached by a few software companies keen for me to review their latest mind mapping software solutions over the last year. Each time though I have rejected the offer to review. As a seasoned mind mapper, I have already decided on my favorite mind mapping software years ago. Having used MindManager for so long, I have no further interest in reviewing or trying out other mind mapping software. As for the actual blog itself, I think it's due an upgrade.

Want to help out?

I would love to hear from people who have ideas or tips for mind mapping that we haven't already published. Have you used mind mapping in a unique way that hasn't been covered before? Let us know and we can write it up for the blog.

It has been an exciting and enjoyable 12 months and I'm glad that many of you have stuck with me for the ride. Let's hope the next few years bring more exciting tips and techniques in helping you make the switch to mind mapping!
